The astronomy behind your chart
Every planet position in VibeKin comes from NASA JPL's DE441 ephemeris. JPL is NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and DE441 is the planetary data used to navigate spacecraft. We work with it through the Swiss Ephemeris, the astronomy library by Astrodienst, which gives positions accurate to a fraction of an arcsecond. VibeKin supports birth dates from 1800 to 2399, so your chart shows where the planets actually were the moment you were born, not a guess based on your sun sign.
How your chart is calculated
VibeKin uses the Western tropical zodiac and the Placidus house system. From your birth date, time and place, it calculates the positions of the planets, the lunar nodes, Chiron and Black Moon Lilith, along with the four angles of your chart. Birth time matters most here: your rising sign and your houses depend on the exact time. Without it, VibeKin still places each planet in its sign, but the rising sign and houses can't be trusted.
- Sun, Moon and the personal planets: Mercury, Venus, Mars
- Jupiter and Saturn, plus the outer planets: Uranus, Neptune, Pluto
- Points: the true North Node (and the South Node opposite it), Chiron, Black Moon Lilith (mean)
- Angles: Ascendant (rising), Midheaven, Descendant, Imum Coeli
Aspects and orbs
VibeKin works with the five major aspects. An orb is how far from exact an aspect can be and still count. Your natal chart uses wider orbs, while transits to your chart use tight ones, so only close contacts register.
- Conjunction (0°): orb of 8°
- Sextile (60°): orb of 4°
- Square (90°): orb of 7°
- Trine (120°): orb of 7°
- Opposition (180°): orb of 8°
- Transits to your natal chart: orb of 3°, or 2° for sextiles
How compatibility is scored
Compatibility in VibeKin is synastry: we compare both people's full natal charts, not just their sun signs. The score, from 0 to 100, comes from the aspects within 6° between the two people's Sun, Moon, Venus and Mars. Tighter aspects count more, and Sun–Moon, Moon–Moon and Venus–Mars contacts weigh the most. Trines and sextiles add to the score; squares and oppositions subtract. Lumi then writes the reading in four parts: your rhythm together, how you complement each other, how you grow together, and tips. On this website you'll also find free guides for all 78 sign pairings, friendship compatibility, and a calculator by birthday or sign that runs in your browser, so your dates stay with you.
How Lumi works
Lumi is VibeKin's AI guide, built on large language models. Lumi is given your computed chart — every planet, house and aspect — and today's sky, so you can ask about yourself or your relationships and get answers rooted in your own chart. Lumi is an AI, not a human astrologer. Your conversations are private: only you see them, and the people you add never do. Chatting with Lumi is part of VibeKin Plus.
What VibeKin is — and isn't
VibeKin is a tool for reflection and self-knowledge: a way to look at yourself and your relationships through astrology. It is meant for entertainment and self-reflection, and it is not medical, psychological or financial advice. VibeKin doesn't predict your fate or tell you what will happen. Your choices stay yours; your chart is something to think with.
Who makes VibeKin
VibeKin is made by the VibeKin team, people who take both the symbolism of astrology and the precision of astronomy seriously. Our aim is accurate astronomy with a human tone: charts computed from real planetary data, read back to you in words that feel personal. We don't sell your personal data, we don't train AI models on it, and you decide what the people you add can see.
