How the friendship score works

Every pair gets a friendship score from 69 to 96. It starts from the angle between the two signs on the zodiac wheel, the same geometry astrologers read between planets. Signs four apart share an element and form a trine, the easiest angle. Signs two apart form a sextile, the classic friendship aspect. Signs three apart form a square and rub against each other.

Two adjustments follow. When both signs share a modality, mutable pairs gain a little because they bend, and fixed pairs lose a little because neither does. When two different signs share a traditional ruling planet, such as Mars for Aries and Scorpio or Venus for Taurus and Libra, they get a small bonus for the tastes that planet gives them in common.

The score is about friendship, not romance, so it often differs from the love score of the same pair: a square that sparks between partners tends to grind between friends. Sun signs are only the first layer; the full picture comes from two complete birth charts.

By the friendship score, signs of the same element four places apart (trines) are the easiest friends: Aries and Leo, Taurus and Virgo, Gemini and Libra, Cancer and Scorpio, and the rest of the trines score 96.

Which zodiac signs struggle to be friends?

Fixed signs in a square start lowest, because neither side bends: Taurus and Leo, Leo and Scorpio, Scorpio and Aquarius, Aquarius and Taurus score 69. They can still be close friends; it simply takes more work.
