Find your Sun, Moon and rising sign
Birth date, time and city. The time matters for the rising sign: it changes about every two hours.

The Big Three is the shorthand astrologers use for the three placements that shape a person most visibly: the Sun sign, the Moon sign and the rising sign, also called the ascendant. Together they describe identity, emotional life and first impression. The calculator below takes a birth date, a birth time and a birthplace, works out the sky at that exact minute and shows all three signs side by side, each with a one-line description, plus links to the full Sun-sign profile and the rising-sign page.
Sun, Moon and rising: what each one shows
Sun
The Sun sign is the one most people already know, set by the date of birth. It describes the core identity: what someone wants from life, what makes them feel like themselves, the direction they grow toward. Daily horoscopes use the Sun sign, which is why it often gets treated as the whole story.
Moon
The Moon sign describes the emotional life: how someone feels, what comforts them, how they react when tired, hurt or homesick. The Moon changes sign roughly every two and a half days, so two people born in the same week can have different Moons. Close friends and family usually know this side best.
Rising
The rising sign, or ascendant, is the zodiac sign that was coming up over the eastern horizon at the exact minute of birth. It describes the first impression, personal style, body language and the reflex under pressure. Strangers meet the rising sign first, long before they get to know the Sun or Moon.
Why the birth time matters
The ascendant moves fast. Because the Earth turns once a day, all twelve signs pass over the eastern horizon in roughly twenty-four hours, so the rising sign changes about every two hours. A difference of even ten or twenty minutes can shift it when the birth fell near a boundary. Birth certificates, hospital records and family memory are the usual sources. Without a time, the calculator can still give the Sun sign and usually the Moon, but the rising sign should be treated as unknown rather than guessed.

Questions about the Big Three
What is my rising sign?
The rising sign is the zodiac sign that was ascending on the eastern horizon at the minute of birth. The calculator above computes it from three details (birth date, exact time and place) and shows the result right away.
Do I need my birth time?
Yes, for the rising sign. The ascendant changes roughly every two hours, so without a time it cannot be known reliably. The Sun sign needs only the date, and the Moon usually needs only the date as well, unless it changed signs on the day of birth.
What is a Big Three?
The Big Three are the Sun, Moon and rising signs. The Sun shows the core identity, the Moon shows the emotional life and the rising sign shows the first impression. Reading all three gives a far fuller picture than the Sun sign alone.
Is the Moon sign the same as the horoscope sign?
No. The sign used for most horoscopes is the Sun sign, set by the birth date. The Moon sign depends on where the Moon was at birth and often differs from the Sun sign. Some astrologers also write horoscopes by rising sign, which is a third option.
Why is my rising sign different on another site?
Usually the birth time or time zone is to blame. A wrong time zone or a missed daylight saving offset in older records can shift the ascendant by a whole sign. Some sites also use the sidereal zodiac of Vedic astrology, which sits almost a sign back. House systems change the houses, never the ascendant, so the time and the city are the first things to check.
Can two people born on the same day have different rising signs?
Yes, easily. The ascendant changes roughly every two hours, so even twins born a short while apart can have different rising signs. Two people who share a birthday share the Sun sign and often the Moon, but their first impressions may come from entirely different signs.
